It mounts where Mercury mounted the stand-alone 2-wire (one red and one yellow) 88825-A7 regulator on the 2.4 Liters and high-performance 2.5 Liters. It also eliminates the need for the Mercury 816770 3-post Rectifier on the electrics plate.

 

This 20 AMP-rated dual-function ignition part operates as both a rectifier, converting AC output from the stator to DC, and a voltage regulator, stabilizing output voltage to protect batteries and onboard electronics.

Installation Guidance:

 

Mounting: Not all blocks are pre-drilled for mounting screws, drilling more than 1/2" into the block may breach you water channel. Use Loctite Threadlocker Red 271 on 1/4-20 Bolts.

 

Wiring: Depending on your other igintion components, wiring with split connectors may be required to connect the 20 AMP Units. Below is the Buckshot Racing #77 / 20 AMP

Mercury Rectifier Regulator Wiring Guide:

 

Yellow Wire (x2)

  • Function: Stator AC Input (Phase A & B)
  • Purpose: Connects to the two yellow stator output leads (AC voltage input)
  • Note: These two wires are interchangeable

 

Red Wire

  • Function: DC Output (Battery Positive)
  • Purpose: Sends regulated charging voltage to the battery or power distribution point
  • Important: Use a fuse or circuit breaker in-line for safety

 

Grey Wire

  • Function: Tachometer Signal
  • Purpose: Provides tach signal derived from stator pulses for RPM gauge
  • Optional: Only needed if a tachometer is in use

 

Black Wire

  • Function: Ground (Negative)Purpose: Provides grounding path to engine block or electrical ground bus.
  • Important: Must be mounted to the bolt going into the plate or any unpainted surface on the block for reliable grounding and heat dissipation.
