The Buckshot Racing twenty-four (24) piece 12" Studs-Down Stud Kit is an upgraded replacement kit for all Mercury Race Super Speedmaster 4 (SSM #4 or Mark 4) and earlier Studs-Down style mid-sections with Super Speedmaster #6 (SSM #6 or Mark 6).
These "Studs-Down" race mid-sections are found on the Mercury Racing Champ, F1, S3000, SST-140, SST-120, SST-200 (200 XS Optimax with 12-inch midsection), APEX 200, APX 250, and APX 360 competition outboards.
What's in the kit?
Eight (8) ARP Brocuhed Allen Key Studs are significantly stronger than stock studs, making them a top choice for high-performance and racing applications. These studs are crafted from superior 8740 chrome moly steel, offering unmatched tensile strength and durability compared to standard studs.
The precision manufacturing process ensures tighter tolerances, delivering consistent and reliable clamping force in extreme conditions, whether testing or the race track. Their ability to handle higher forces ensures the mid-section and gear case / lower unit remain securely in place, reducing the risk of misalignment and breakage.
The broached Allen Key design featured on ARP studs also allows for easy, precise installation, reducing the chance of cross-threading or thread damage—essential for performance tuning and frequent lower unit swaps.
Eight (8) Stainless Steel Sized Extra Thick Case-Hardened Washers provide excellent durability, load distribution, and clamping force retention for the studs-down mid to lower. Their resistance to wear, deformation, corrosion, and fatigue ensures long-lasting reliability, while the hardened surface prevents galling with stainless steel bolts, maintaining performance under extreme conditions.
Eight (8) Stainless Steel Nylock 7/16 Fine Thread Nuts offer vibration resistance and corrosion protection, ideal for high-performance and marine applications. The nylon insert secures nuts, preventing loosening, while fine threads ensure precise adjustments and strong clamping. Reusable and durable, they also distribute the load evenly, preventing damage to softer materials in high-stress environments.
